Newsletter October 22nd 2020
Dear Parents & Guardians, We are approaching mid-term and I wish to thank you for your cooperation and support. Classes have settled back extremely well and it has been brilliant to watch our new Junior Infants adjust to life in such a busy school. The children appear very happy and have experienced many learning experiences since 1st September. Long may it continue…
Halloween Costumes: Children may wear Halloween costumes or their school tracksuit to school on Friday, October 23rd. They may also bring a treat to school with their lunches.
Mid-Term: School will close tomorrow for our mid-term holidays at the normal times. School will re-open on Monday, November 2nd. The present arrangements for morning drop-off and afternoon collection will continue after the mid-term break.
Well Done: A huge congratulations to Aoife who was selected this week to sing with ‘Irish Women in Harmony’ on their Christmas single. The Christmas Single chorus will be released at the end of November. Aoife auditioned with over 1000 other hopeful entries. Well done Aoife! We are extremely proud of your achievements.
Junior Infant Enrolments 2021: The Application Process and Admission’s Notice for Junior Infants 2021 will be published on our school website next week.
School Garden: Many thanks to Mr. Aaron Gallagher for coordinating the cultivation and preparation of our school garden.
Reminder to Label: Please label all your child’s clothing and belongings.
Maths Week: There were lots of activities taking place throughout the school for Maths week, with the emphasis on “Maths for All”. Classes from Junior Infants up to Sixth engaged in fun and practical Maths activities and challenges. Many thanks, Ms. Doody for coordinating the activities.
Attendance Policy: The school is legally obligated to report to the National Education Welfare Board (NEWB) any child who misses more than 20 days in the school year. Please remember to explain all absences in writing (Aladdin App and/or by emailing the class teacher) and to also complete the Back to School Declaration Form (Aladdin App or School Website).
We expect quite a few children to reach twenty days this year. Many children will be marked absent due to illness or Covid-19 restrictions. Please do not worry if you receive messages in relation to pupil absences. You are taking the correct action in keeping your child at home when they are ill or when they are associated with a suspected Covid-19 case. I cannot thank you enough for your cooperation in this matter so far this year. You are helping to keep everyone safe by your actions.

Parent / Teacher Meetings: Parent / Teacher Meetings will take place in springtime, during Term 2.
Christmas Shoebox Appeal: Milford N.S. will be taking part in the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal this year. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Christmas Shoebox Appeal is running ONLINE. You can now build your shoebox at www.TeamHope.ie and your donation will allow a network of local partners in Africa and Eastern Europe to purchase items for shoeboxes, which will then be delivered straight into the hands of children affected by poverty. Together with your child you can build a box, personalise your box and donate online at www.TeamHope.ie. Every Christmas Shoebox brings so much joy, love and hope. COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on the partner countries and this year, more than ever, every shoebox counts. We encourage as many families as possible to take part in the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal this year.
Wishing you and your family a lovely mid-term break.
