June 2021 Newsletter
Dear Parents,
The school year has almost drawn to a close and we are all looking forward to the summer holidays. Thank you parents so much for your support and cooperation throughout this year. Your children have demonstrated remarkable resilience and have been brilliant in adapting to all the changes that were asked of them. We are extremely proud of their efforts to learn and the progress they have made since last September. And a sincere “Thank You” to our school staff for their dedication, positive attitude and incredible effort. A huge thank you to Ms Olive O’Sullivan and Ms Yvonne Newman (our Staff Lead Worker Representatives) and the members of our Board of Management for their leadership and commitment to keeping everyone safe in our school community. It has been a real team effort!

Booklists and Class Allocation
Booklist and class allocation will be published via Aladdin tomorrow.
Uniform on Friday
Friday is a normal uniform day for all classes. Pupils may wear their summer uniform, PE uniform or brown uniform.
School Uniform Reminder: The uniform consists of a brown crested school jumper or cardigan, cream shirt or blouse and brown gymslip, skirt or trousers. Black or brown shoes should be worn with the brown school uniform. This uniform is worn from 1st to 6th. Under no circumstances should runners be worn under skirts or trousers. The school track-suit is worn on PE days. It is dark blue with a pale blue stripe and is crested. A light blue polo shirt may be worn underneath. Runners may be worn with the track-suit. If possible, runners with a light-coloured sole should be worn to prevent marking of the gym floor. The track-suit is the only uniform necessary for Junior and Senior infants.
September Reopening: The scheduled date for school to reopen is Tuesday, 31st August. The Department and inspectorate published documents recently in relation to next year. We will have to wait and see what happens during July and August but we do not envisage our reopening plans changing very much from the way we are operating at the moment. Any updates will be published via Aladdin and will also be published on our school website.
Swimming: Swimming will not take place in Term 1.
Homework Club: Homework Club will be running in Milford N.S. for the 2021/2022 school year. It is available for children from 2nd to 6th class. It runs from Monday to Thursday inclusive during term time. For further information and details, please contact Ms. Quinlan via claire.quinlan@milfordns.ie
Milford Kids Summer Camp: Milford Kids Camp will be hosting a summer camp on the school grounds from Monday June 28th – Friday July 2nd. The camp was originally planned for 2 weeks, however, the demand for week 1 far outweighed the demand for week 2 and we have decided to run the camp for one week only. Click the link below to access the brochure. The deadline to submit your application for the camp is Wednesday June 23rd, there are limited places available so book early to avoid disappointment. Please note that Milford Activity Camp is a separate entity to Milford NS, you can email the coordinators for more information at milfordkidscamp@gmail.com. Communion and Confirmation: Father Koenraad has asked me to confirm with you that the Communion and Confirmation ceremonies will take place on the following dates:
- First Communion will take place on Saturday, July 10th at 11am and 2pm
- Confirmation will take place on Monday, July 5th at 11am and 2pm
Fr Koenraad has also indicated that if parents do not feel safe attending the ceremonies on these dates that he will accommodate individual families to celebrate the sacrament with their child at a later date in the year
Condolences: On a very sad note, Ms. Gemma Ryan’s dad (Michael Ryan) passed away on Sunday. Michael, a former parent and great supporter of our school will be greatly missed by our school community. He was always very generous with his time and talents. Michael’s most recent project in the school was helping to build the stage props for our Peter Pan school show in UL whilst also arranging the display of our class photographs near reception. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of everyone in Milford N.S. to express our sincerest condolences to Ms. Ryan and her family for their very sad loss. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
Finally, on behalf of us all here at Milford School, I wish parents, children and family members a well-deserved and enjoyable break, and I hope that everyone will return safely and in good health on Tuesday, 31st August.
Gaoth an tsonais libh uile!
Le gach dea-ghuí,
Diarmaid Moore
