Parents, pupils, staff and friends of Milford NS were treated to an extravaganza of style, glamour and much more in the Castletroy Carlton Hotel on Tuesday 20th October 2009. The hard work of the Organising Committee, Noelle Kelly, Sharon Gleeson and Linda O’Connell, all parents of children attending the school, guaranteed that the “ Girls’ Night Out” Fashion Show was a huge success, raising in excess of €10,000 for the Milford National School Community Gym Building Fund. This support is testament to the commitment of the parent body and wider community. The gym offers a wide range of activities to the community, including Ballet, Irish Dancing, Body Toning, Karate , Taekwan-do, and more.
The event was compered by Lorcan Murray and choreographed by Mairéad O’Connor, a teacher at the school, with music by DJ Brian Deegan aka Tex. It was a Fashion Show with a difference.
Guests were treated to a champagne reception on arrival, sponsored by Alan Gleeson of Essential Salon Supplies. Experienced models were joined on the catwalk by pupils, grandparents and teachers of Milford NS. 26 pupils from Junior Infants to 6th class performed dance routines which would give any professional troop a run for their money! When “Rapper”, Slim Shady was revealed as none other than Parish Priest, Fr John Campion, on the catwalk, one was left in no doubt that Noelle, Sharon and Linda had left no stone unturned in ensuring that the “Girls’ Night Out” be a highly entertaining night for all in attendance.
Family Fashions were featured from Sinéad’s, Gleesons’ Sports, Next, Mexx, Mego, Katie Janes, Cerise Shoes, Spirit of Killaloe, Little Piggy’s Shoes for Kids, Hair was by Marbles and Powercut, and make-up was by Seventh Heaven Beauty Salon.
Numerous generous donations of raffle and spot-prizes provided added excitement on the night and the evening concluded with a wine and canapés reception, sponsored by Frank Hogan’s Motors.
The Board of Management, staff and pupils of Milford NS are deeply appreciative of the support of the parent body and the wider community for the Gym Project and in particular for the initiative, enthusiasm and drive of the organising committee of the “Girls’ Night Out Fashion Show
